Aperture Science Innovators is hiring. Aperture Science Innovators is always hiring. Personnel is authorised to discuss the first reason for that sentence, which is that the company has grown from four men to 1,247 in sixteen years and has never once stopped.

No committee. No review board. No three-year grant cycle. One man reads your proposal, and if he likes it you have a machine shop, a budget and a deadline before the end of the week. If he does not like it he will tell you so to your face, which is more than most employers manage, and then he will very likely hire you anyway to find out why you thought of it.

We do not ask for a diploma. We have never asked for a diploma. The best physicist in this building left school at fourteen to work the iron range and I found him because he wrote to me to say my curtains were hung wrong, and they were.

“Bring me your best idea. If it is any good I will fund it by Thursday, and if it is no good I will tell you why, and either way you will know by Thursday.”
— Cave Johnson, Personnel Department address, 1957

How To Apply

Write to Personnel at the address on the correspondence sheet, or present at the second-floor window marked PERSONNEL and not the window marked PERSONNEL (ARCHIVE), which is the same window with the shutter down. Bring nothing. If you have built a thing, bring the thing.

You will be seen the same day. If your idea is any good you will be seen by the President the same day, because he is on the third floor and the stairs are right there, and he has been known to come down to the second floor at the sound of a good idea being described through a wall.

Present At The Second-Floor Window

Verifying personnel file…

The relay room nights post has been open since 1956. The two men who applied both asked me, separately, on the way out, whether the machine had been told they were coming. — C.
